today's sunset!!!

the sun is at a slant, clouds just below it. there is an orange glow on the horizon as the sun sinks behind the clouds, hundreds of shafts of light, yellow and orange, peak from behind the clouds. the ball shines from a gap, the shaft of light just for me. i lift my face to it, watching the strong, powerful waves race toward the shore, crashing on each other and the beach.

the closer to the horizon, the deeper the orange color. clouds are most thick 'round the sun, more flanking them, thinning out to the south and north - to the left and right, respectively.

the sun has disappeared behind the clouds now, but shafts of rays shine through, dying the clouds golden yellow, the farthest reaching ones the brightest yellow and golden. just south, the sun colors the sky a pink-orange color.

as i watch the sky change colors, a cool breeze makes me shiver. the waves continue to crash toward the shore. the sand shifts under me as i move, taking in the scene.

the golden rays are gone now from above the clouds. the sky to the left (south) is a hazy pink, while the horizon in front of me is an orage color, fading to pink. just below the sun, the clouds and sky are a burnt golden color. just a shaft of light from a hole in the clouds that are dyed bright gold.

the sun drops lower, brightening the horizon, from hazy pink to the south, to bright pink to just left of the sun, and orange to where the sun is coming out from under the clouds. the sun itself is bloodred in color as it descends. orange rays stretch out underneath, reaching to touch me and color the lake.

the clouds move, hiding the sun again, rays of light trying to struggle through. orange stretches up and right, pink to the left and down... to the blue color of the clouds on the horizon.

the deepest pink is right on the horizon, sitting on the lake... a pink that reminds me of a rose petal.

the sun is truly hidden now. all i see is the pinks, orange and gold from the rays showing from behind the clouds.

the sky itself is tinted the rose petal pink at the horizon, reflected orange on the clouds that are far enough away to reflect color. orange is just above the pink, interlaced with the blue clouds.

the bloodred sun makes an appearance at the horizon, slipping away... like the clouds are dropping it into the horizon...

the final rays bleach the farthest reaching the clouds orange as the sun sinks itself lower into the horizon, like a coin into the slot of a piggy bank until it is gone... like magic. a pink line is all that remains at the horizon... almost like it was always there... like it was painted on the horizon.

the sky right behind the clouds is still golden orange... rusty orange. pink still stretches far south... like the thousands of rose petals of a rose garden. the clouds are deeper blue, amazing in their own color.

waves crash. they thunder toward the shore, never changing, beating the sand like they always have. the sun is gone now, save for the last rays. as i wait for them to go, a breeze pulls at my hair, raises goosebumps on my arms, if the sunset hasn't raised them already.

the rays are nearly gone... as i gaze out at them, i can't help but feel at a loss. a loss for words at how to describe such a beautiful sunset, to describe the awesome colors, like the rose petal pink still horizon. a loss for words at how to describe how i feel.

waves roll, crashing into themselves, thundering toward the shore. it's almost dark now. but i am still anchored to the beach. pink and orange still play on the sky, content in coloring the sky something other than its normal azure blue.

clouds drift away. the soft sand is cool to my bare ankles where my pants were pushed up when i crossed my legs.

nobody else is here; nobody else on the beach. as the sky darkens, i don't feel scared. i am happy.

waves reach up... they roll themselves out, usually before the beach, until they reform to recrash before they reach the shoreline... water still reaches up the beach, strecthing... making firm, wet sand...

it is very nearly dark now. a few more moments. i guess i should go home before the night takes over. the sand shifts as i get up... under my hand, under my feet.

i take one last look at the waves. the last think i see... the waves and the wash of color. though the rose petal pink is what i will remember the most.... i turn 'round, my back to the waves... and they are the last thing i hear...

  2. Ahhh...I was standing on the bluff watching this same sunset. How blessed we are. Those crashing waves certainly were dramatic!

    1. Dramatic? We can say that. And yes, we are blessed. I think Memere was with us, watching it.
